Sleep More to Weigh Less

So, you already know it's very important to get a terrific night's sleep, right? Not only is it obvious that you feel better when you get enough sleep, but you also boost your immunity, enhance learning and memory, and increase your productivity.
In addition, a good night's sleep also leads to healthier eating. How?! you may be asking.
Well, have you ever noticed that you're hungrier when you're tired? And why do you think that is?
Well, research shows that our appetites increase roughly 25% when we are tired. And have you ever noticed what you most often crave when you're tired? If you're like most people, then it's sugar and caffeine. Why do you think that is? Well, often you're looking to that food to give you quick energy - and of course,sugar and caffeine do just that!

Certainly, there are a variety of reasons you may struggle with getting good sleep, and in fact, according to the CDC, sleep deprivation is a public health epidemic.
So, may I make a few suggestions? Try these strategies, which have proven very fabulous and effective:
Establish a Soothing Pre-Sleep Routine - an hour or so before bed, begin to relax your body by taking a bath or shower (the rise, then fall in body temperature promotes drowsiness), reading a good book or engaging in a creative practice, like painting. If you feel particularly troubled about something, jot your issues down, make a to-do list for tomorrow and set it aside.
Lighten up on evening Meals - Finish dinner several hours before bedtime and avoid foods that cause indigestion. If you get hungry at night, snack on foods that won't disturb your sleep. (Try complex carbohydrates.)
Watch your fluid intake - To keep hydrated (but to avoid waking in the middle of the night to use the bathroom), drink most of your fluid in the morning hours, less in the afternoon hours and none in the evening hours, preferably two to three hours before bed.

When you're at home with not much else to do, it can be quite easy to succumb to watching whatever TV show happens to be on while raiding the pantry for something to munch on at the same time.
For the most part, much of the late night snacking that people do is completely mindless so you may not even be fully aware of how many calories you are really taking in.
Unfortunately, this can start to put a dent in your weight loss progress, so it's important that you come to realize what the full deal is behind this habit.
Let's take a closer look at late night snacking and help you determine its impact on your weight loss progress.
Total Calorie Consumption
The very first thing that you must take into account with late night snacking is the amount of calories you're consuming. Remember that your weight loss progress is essentially going to boil down to how many calories you consume on a daily basis. Take in more than you burn off and you'll gain weight. You should never be going to bed starving, but at the same time, you really must learn to differentiate psychological hunger with physiological hunger. When you can do that, then you will experience the best rate of weight loss.
So, the moral of the story is that if you are going to snack late at night, be sure you're snacking on something other than simple carbs or high-fat snack foods and make sure you plan those calories into your daily total calorie intake. If you do those two things you will not find that snack hindering your progress.

Summer Beach Body Confidence Building Tips:
1. Hydrate (this one is the easiest thing on the list to do)
Not only is water essential to so many functions in our bodies, detoxifying, cleansing, lubricating and supporting these functions but it also helps power our cells for much needed energy during summer workouts, sports and activities.
Double up on your water intake - especially when out in the summer heat and when you are being more active than usual.
Add lemon, cucumbers and lime slices to a large pitcher and refill your carry around jug throughout the day!
2. Focus on Core Movements
Add 10! That's 10 minutes of core specific movements to at least 2-3 workouts a week over the next two months and see how much stronger you feel as you enjoy your fun time.
Either start or end with core OR add a core movement in between each circuit of moves you do. Mix these core movements up - don't just do planks.
Great core movements can include: trunk rotations with tubing, medicine ball twists, TRX pikes, Swiss Ball crunches etc. Make strengthening your core a priority.
3. Visualize
Start every single work out over the next 2 months with a minute or two of visualization work.
No matter what type of workout - exercise class, strength training at the gym or even before heading out for your morning run.
Visualize the goals that you most want to see come to fruition both short term and long term over the next year.
Whether it's a physical goal, a mental goal or spiritual goal - give it specific attention right before you enter your workout "zone".
4. Breathe
Start to pay more attention to your breath - not only during your workouts but in everyday situations as well.
During your workouts - the most typical breathing pattern is inhale when there is less effort or resistance and exhale when you are using force or exerting effort during a movement.
Feeling more relaxed with your breathing pattern in general will make your enhance your workout results, so as they say - just let your breath flow.
And in stressful life situations use the following motto: Let it go - let it flow. The breath truly is the easiest way to get back to calm energy quickly.
5. Break A Habit
Over the next 21-28 days give up one diet pitfall that you know is keeping you from you really, truly rocking your summer body.
Maybe it's having that midday Frappuccino - or indulging in the bread basket when out to eat or simply raiding the refrigerator every night before bed.
For the next 21-28 days STOP IT! This amount of time is touted to be the sweet spot for breaking habits.
No baby steps - just dive right in and do it. You can do anything for 28 days.
6. Mindful Digestion
Eat slower. Chew more thoroughly and take smaller bites. Just this tip alone will help in many areas - from your digestion, to your waist measurement and to your overall feeling of satiety.

7. Intensity Matters

Why Some People Eat Fast Food And Not Gain Weight

Ever notice how some people can eat fast food every day and not gain a pound? And they don't just have a little something, they are getting the double Whoppers, Supersized Fries, and the large Frostys (owned by Burger King, McDonald's & Wendy's respectfully).
So, why aren't they gaining weight? Why aren't they getting sick?
Well, they are. We're just not seeing the long term picture.
These fast foods are packed with artificial chemicals, sugars, and food products. Very, very little of what they sell in a fast food joint is actually food.
Heck, the McDonald's french fry is over 10 ingredients alone. It only takes 2 to make them at home (unless you add salt, then it's 3).
They try to wrap it up in pretty language such as 'natural'. Arsenic is all-natural, and so is uranium. In fact, if you really want to get technical, everything is all natural because at some point it came from nature.
So, why does it affect some people more than others? Well, the people who it doesn't affect are younger and have a higher energy out-put. Basically, their young and active.
They are still ingesting the toxic chemicals, the excess sugars, and unnatural processed junk. They are missing out on nutrition.
Being young, their bodies are better adapted to missing out. Their cells are not yet saturated with the toxins, so they can store more. Their pancreas still is pumping out tons of insulin, and is not yet worn out. Because of the higher energy levels, the sugars are used up and not stored away.
Their digestive systems are still repairing itself fast, so they don't feel the damage that the bad food is doing. They don't understand that all that junk is ripping them open.
But, it will catch up. Give it a little time, months or years, and this fast food habit will begin to wear thin. You can only store so many toxins. You can only pump out so much insulin before breaking.
Just like a car, if you put junk in, it will break down quickly.
But, if they stopped early, they would live longer, look young longer, have more energy, and just be healthier.
I look at older people who did the fast foods. Those in their 30s and 40s. They know immediately something is wrong when they eat fast food because their body knows it's poison. Their bodies are already at the breaking point.

I seldom eat meals during the day more unhealthy snacking, sometimes fast food, but nights were my pig-out time. Here is what I did to shred those pounds.
I went to a dietician to provide a basic idea of a meal plan, it brought me down to 1600 calories a day. Afterwards a combination of what was given, and using my culinary creativity were the keys to helping me achieve the goal. Breakfast consisted of shredded wheat which I called hay with a banana, and keeping in mind my sweet tooth a sugar substitute was sprinkled over top. Yummy right! With it I had a coffee which is a diuretic and a vitamin to balance nutrition. The craziest thing happened which was by lunch time I was famished which shocked me a bit.
Lunch time consisted of either a tuna or salmon sandwich. I used toasted whole wheat bread, a little low-calorie mayonnaise with tomatoes and lettuce. On the side cucumber and fruit for desert. As a treat I would have a salad with again tuna or chicken. Previously much of the food I consumed had a lot of fat in it, so I felt much fuller than after a healthier meal. Never the less it satisfied me until supper time anyways.
Supper was my favorite dietary meal of the day because I could eat like a person again. It consisted of some type of protein like meat, fish, or poultry. Mashed potatoes with butter, side vegetables and salad. That held me for a few hours, but if you remember night-time was my big eating sessions, so I needed to figure a way of satisfying my sweet tooth while adhering to this diet.
I figured out a way to make mock cheese cake with practically no calories. I would take some morning hay make it fine in the food processor. Then take some plain no fat yogurt add vanilla extract, sweet and low plus mint mix it up. The topping was either fresh strawberries or blueberries again with artificial sugar on top. Other days I would make mega fruit salads with every type in the bowl. If by chance later on became hungry again anther yogurt mix.
Part of my routine was also a 30 minute daily walk in the park. The beginning was great shredded around 14 pounds, but after a few months I seemed to stop losing weight, continuing my diet anyways a few weeks later I started losing again. It had taken me 7 months to shed those 30 pounds, at the beginning once a week I would treat myself to junk food, but by the end the taste of oily or rich foods where not there. I managed to keep this weight off for almost ten years, did partially go back to old bad eating habits but maintained the weight anyways. Lately I have gained 10 pounds back eating way too much sweets and rich foods, so next week back to diet again hopefully the last time.
